Phone Plans and Jesus
I was at Best Buy getting help with my phone plan when she walked in. Standing close together while we waited in line I overheard that she was trying to figure out how many minutes she could afford to put on her phone. I stepped to the side and asked the employee to add her bill to my ticket. After conversation with the woman I discovered that her phone wasn't her only financial struggle. I told her about church and gave her our assistance line where she could call and get some advice on next steps. She thanked me and that was the last I heard from her.
Years later I heard a voice call out while I was helping with a local event we were doing as a church. "You're the one who paid for my phone," she said, sitting proudly in a line of volunteers helping us with the event. I didn't get to ask what brought her to church and I won't take the credit for it. But, I can't help but wonder if there were a multitude of believers put in her path over a course of time so eventually she couldn't deny how loved she is. It dawned on me that on that day years ago, she didn't need a phone. She just needed to feel the love of Jesus. Now not only does she feel it, she's spreading it to others as an active part of the body of Christ.
