Life Group Guide

This Leader Guide will help you lead the conversation. [Brackets] indicate simple cues for you, as a facilitator, and are not intended to be read aloud.

[For the next 27 weeks, we would like all of our Life Groups to walk, lock-step, through this series. Why is this so important? For the next 27 weeks, we will, as a church, be going through the New Testament. Each week there will be a reading plan, and we will be covering one book of the New Testament each week. In addition to this, there will be a Bible Study on The Crossing Facebook page that everyone can watch and participate in. There are 26 books in the New Testament, so for the next 6 months, let’s all do this together.

There is nothing more important than knowing and applying the Word of God in a believer’s life. And, there is nothing more important you can do as a Life Group leader than leading the way. We encourage you, as the leader, to participate in the reading plan and that you communicate regularly with your Life Group participants and help them to do the same.

This week is an introduction week, and we will have a discussion on 2 Timothy 3:16. Beginning next week, and for the remaining 26 weeks, the discussion question will be very general. We’ll leave it up to the participant to speak to the Scriptures that God used in their life the previous week. We are trusting that the Holy Spirit will do His work in each person’s life. For instance, there are 28 chapters in the Book of Matthew and the Holy Spirit may use any one of them to impact a Life Group participant’s life. We want to give them a chance to talk about what God is doing in them as they study and apply Truth. This series will produce tremendous fruit in each person’s life if they saturate themselves with the Word of God. Isaiah 55:11]

Discussion Questions

Read 2 Timothy 3:16. What does God-breathed mean? [Look at Genesis 2:7 and Matthew 4:4 for clarity.] Does your approach to reading and studying the Bible indicate that you see the scriptures as life-giving and sustaining, or circumstance saving? [Many times, people read the Bible when they are in trouble and are looking for a solution to their problem. If you believe the Bible is life-giving and sustaining, you approach reading and study as if your life depends on it.]

Give examples of teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training.

What happens when a child if they are not taught? Rebuked? Corrected? Trained? Now, as a group, identify what happens to believers who do not engage regularly and apply the Word of God.
