Worship

Life Group Leader Guide

This Leader Guide will help you lead the conversation with your Life Group when discussing this week’s sermon.

Worship

Key Things You Heard

  • We come unprepared to worship.
  • We come resistant to worship.
  • We want worship to be all about Him. That way it doesn’t have to be about us.
  • Worship has no value to Him as if He needed anything…you have value to Him!

Pray

Heavenly Father, You are the One who is worthy of our worship. We know this because you are the One who crossed the great divide and restored us to a right relationship with you. Without you providing the way, we could not stand in your presence and worship you for who you are. Everything in our life flows from your throne, including our ability to worship you in Spirit and in Truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Tweetable Moments

Worship will break through your resistance, it will expose who you are, but that won’t stop God or slow Him down.”

“Jesus will take the worship in you to light the fires of worship in the people around you.

Questions for Conversation

Icebreaker: The title of this new series is, I Love My Church. Why do you love the Church?

  • Jerry started out the sermon by saying, “Many of us who consider ourselves more mature would say that worship is all about God. But what if I told you that it’s far more about us than about God?”  How did that strike you? Why? By the end of the sermon, did you see why he made this statement? If so, what point caused your thinking to shift?
  • Read John 4: 4-11a. Have you ever come to worship with something else on your mind? How did it affect your worship? How did your worship affect what was on your mind? Give an example.
  • Read John 4:11b-24. Coming to worship with something else on your mind is one thing. But have you ever come resistant to worship? What are some things that cause resistance to worship? Is there something in your life that is causing resistance to worship? Share it with your group and allow them to help you get past this hurdle.
  • Read John 4:25-30, 39-41. Jerry said, “Real worship is a response to what Jesus is doing personally in and with you. The facts are still there, but how I relate to them is completely different. Worship is how I process what is happening to me.”  What did he mean by this? How is this worship? Can you give an example of when this has been true in your life?

Now Go Do It

Challenge: This week, read the following Psalms and journal all you learn about worship. Then, identify something that you can incorporate into your worship. Psalm 29, 42, 84, 95, 98, 145.

If you have young children still at home, check out Family Worship at Home on RightNow media. This is a solid biblically-based worship series that will allow you to interact with your children in worship and in the Word of God.
