Humility
Key Things You Heard
- He (God) will coach you through His Word and through prayer.
- He (God) will coach you through key people that he will put in your path.
- He (God) will coach you through divine appointments that shape your life structure.
Pray
Heavenly Father, pride is so devastating to us. Try as we may, we cannot overcome it except through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. But we long to be like you. Humble before God and man. Teach us, mold us, shape us, and let us understand how your way is the best. Teach us to humble ourselves in your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Tweetable Moments
- “God will do his part, but you will have to do yours. Are you willing?”
- “Jesus has an unlimited amount of tools in his belt to coach you through life.”
Questions for Conversation
Icebreaker: Tell about a time when pride got the best of you. Or, tell about how God humbled you because of your pride.
- Read 2 Corinthians 5:9. What are ways that we please God? How does our desire to please God keep us humble?
- Read Jeremiah 19:9. What are your thoughts as you read this verse? How does this inform you about the importance of the Holy Spirit in your life? Tell about a time when you trusted your heart but found out it was deceiving you.
- Jerry spoke about the fact that God will coach you through His Word and through prayer. What role did the Word of God play in your life this week? Did you pray this week? Why? What things did you pray about? How did God coach you through the Word and through prayer? If it doesn’t seem he did, why is that? What changes can you make this week to become teachable in these areas?
- God will coach you with people he has placed in your path. Tell about a time He has done this in your life.
- Tell about a time when you had a divine appointment.
- Read Hebrews 12:1-3. As a group, break this verse down and discuss what role we play and what role God plays in our walk with Jesus.
Now Go Do It
Challenge: Make a plan to increase your time in the Word and in prayer this week. Next week in your group, ask the group if you can share your experience.
