Life Group Leader Guide

This Leader Guide will help you lead the conversation with your Life Group when discussing this week’s sermon.

God’s Will

Life Group Leader Guide

This Leader Guide will help you lead the conversation with your Life Group when discussing this week’s sermon.

God’s Will

Key Things You Heard

  • Those who have the Holy Spirit have access to the plans God has for them.
  • Those who have the Holy Spirit can understand the will of God.
  • Those who do not have the Holy Spirit cannot accept the things of God.
  • Those who have the Holy Spirit have the mind of Christ.
  • To have the mind of Christ is to know God’s will.

Pray

Heavenly Father, so many times, we approach your will as if you are hiding it from us. But what kind of a God would you be if you told us to follow your will and then kept us from finding it. Lord, help us learn about your will and help us understand how to pursue your will. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Tweetable Moments

“We want God’s will to be difficult, complex, and hidden so we can avoid having to do it.”

“God’s will is revealed in His word, through His Spirit, to His people.”

Questions for Conversation

Icebreaker: Take a moment and share your favorite vacation memory.

  • Read 1 Corinthians 2:9-16. Look at the Key Things You Heard above. Where do you see each one of these in this passage of scripture? Why do you think we struggle with the will of God when the truth of scripture rings so loudly?
  • Clayton used the word mind as an acrostic to explain what he meant by each description of God’s will.

Majestic will of God

Intentional will of God

Noble will of God

Distinct will of God

  • Clayton said, “Our biggest issue is not in knowing God’s will, but not wanting to do God’s will.” What are your thoughts about this statement?
  • Pick any big mistake you made in your life, find your biggest regret. Would you have done the same thing if you had made the decision with the MIND of Christ?  How should this inform your decisions in the future?
  • Read Proverbs 3:5-6. What are ways you can trust, lean, and submit to God?

Now Go Do It

Challenge: During the next week,

  1. Identify where you see God’s will in your life.
  2. Look for each aspect of God’s will.
  3. Keep a journal of where you see His will playing out in your life.
  4. Be honest and also journal how you obeyed or disobeyed his will.
  5. At the end of the week, share with your Life Group what you learned and how God changed you.
