Life Group Leader Guide

This Leader Guide will help you lead the conversation with your Life Group when discussing this week’s sermon.

Faith

Key Things You Heard

  • Having faith means sometimes you walk alone.
  • Having faith means sometimes doing things that don’t make sense.
  • Having faith means obeying god for longer than you planned.
  • Having faith means sometimes doing things that don’t turn out the way you want them to.

Pray

Heavenly Father, We know that without faith it is impossible to please you. Yet, we often try to please you in other ways. Teach us about what true faith is and how to live in that faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Tweetable Moments

“Having faith in God means sometimes you walk alone.”

“What makes God happy is faith, not just belief.”

Questions for Conversation

Icebreaker: Tell about a funny camp experience that you have had. Tell about a camp experience that impacted you greatly.

  • Read Genesis 6:5-8 and Hebrews1:6. If God were to survey the world today, what do you think he would say about your faith? Why? In what ways have you tried to please God that were not rooted in faith? What did you learn from the experience? Do you still try to please God apart from faith? Why?
  • Read Genesis 6:9-13. Has there ever been a time in your life when God has called you to stand alone for him? What emotions and/or difficulties did you experience because of your stand? what did you learn about God? What did you learn about yourself? Why do we struggle with standing alone? What does this say about the importance of the church?
  • Having faith in God sometimes means doing things that don’t make sense. What are some things in the scripture that we are called to do that don’t make sense from a lower story perspective?
  • Having faith in God means obeying God for longer than you planned. Is there something in your life that you are trusting God for but it is taking longer than you think it should? What does this say about God? What does it say about you?
  • Read James 2:14-19. Mark Moore says, “Those who earn salvation through works ask, “Is this all I have to do?” Those who are living in their allegiance to God ask a different question: “What else can I do?” Why does he say this? Which question do you ask more often? What else is God wanting you to do, today?

Now Go Do It

Challenge: What actions will your Life Group take to live out their faith? What can you do that will involve the neighbors, the neighborhood, or the community in such a way that they can see, through your actions, that your faith is real. Make a plan and execute. If your Life Group isn’t making a plan, make one personally.
