The Crossing
Im New Here

The Crossing, previously known as Payson Road Christian Church, is an independent, non-denominational church started in Quincy in 1970. It was formed as a daughter church of Madison Park Christian Church of Quincy. About 60 people from MPCC began holding services in the Monroe Elementary School. From that start came a land purchase and building program. Thus came Payson Road Christian Church at 2901 Payson Road.

In 1998, PRCC made the decision to tighten the focus on “seekers”...to find a neutral environment that would be less intimidating. We decided to “get uncomfortable” so that others would feel “more comfortable.” PRCC became a mobile church, setting up and tearing down, week after week, for services at the Quincy Senior High School auditorium. That step of faith opened doors to a permanent “neutral ground” home...the John Wood Community College campus at 48th and Maine Street. At that point our name changed to Payson Road Christian Church at the Crossing, which was later shortened simply to The Crossing. In 2005 we added a 2,000 seat auditorium to the campus to accommodate our existing family and our future family as we continue to reach out to the Quincy area.

In 2007 The Crossing began a new journey to be one church in multiple locations. On October 7th, we opened our first multi-site location in Macomb, Illinoi s. While the campus has its own staff, the sermons are broadcast live from our Quincy campus. The same ministries are available in both locations. From it's opening, the renovated grocery store has become the largest church in the city with weekend attendance over 800.

In addition to this, Barry and Ine Stander, our children's pastors, went back to Mosselbay, South Africa to open a Crossing location there. Worship experiences began in the spring of 2008. It has become the only racially integrated church in that city. We have high hopes to impact this region on the other side of the globe.

On November 2, 2008 The Crossing opened it's third multi-site location in Kirksville, Missouri. Just like Macomb, Kirksville has its own staff, the sermons are also broadcast live from Quincy. The same ministries are availible as in the Quincy and Maocmb campus. Kirksville has over 400 in weekly attendance

The Crossing has also moved agressively into the area of benevolence. Presently, we operate thrift stores in Quincy and Macomb. The income from these ventures has exponentially increased funds available for local benevolence. Interfacing with ministries like Celebrate Recovery, the Crossing offers jobs and job placement, counseling, financial help, and encouragement. The latest outgrowth of this area of ministry is our 5th campus in the heart of Quincy. The Crossing 929 is a church centered on building bridges to our community using benevolence as a primary tool.

In September 2009 edition of Outreach Magazine, The Crossing was listed as the 27th fastest growing church of any kind in the country. The Christian Standard listed the Crossing as the #1 fastest growing church in the brotherhood of Independent Christian Churches. The future for the Crossing looks bright as we look to additional sites and opportunities to impact our region for Jesus Christ.
