Nearly every night of the week in homes all around the area, small groups of 6-18 adults gather together seeking to develop their walk with Christ. They study together. They pray together. They laugh together. They cry together. In short, they are doing life together. These small groups are the lifeblood of The Crossing, and we believe that participation in a small group is crucial for anyone who is a believer or regular attendee of The Crossing.
It is our belief that small groups are the model for how the church is to function in relationship with God and each other. This follows the pattern of the early church in Acts 5:42 "Day after day, in the temple courts (weekend celebration) and from house to house (small group fellowships), they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.
At The Crossing, we ask small groups to do more than study the Bible. We ask them to accomplish all five of the purposes that Jesus gave us in the Great Commandment (Matt. 22:37-38): Love God (Worship) and love our neighbor (Ministry) and in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20) Go and Make Disciples (Evangelism), Baptize them (Fellowship) and Teach them (Discipleship).
At The Crossing we are committed to making disciples and believe this happens best through “Relational Discipleship.” Relational Discipleship happens when people get connected with an intentional leader in a relational environment A small group can be a home group, bible study, ministry team, Celebrate Recovery group, prayer team, etc.
In a small group a person is placed within a relational environment with other Christians and a leader who can help them become a mature follower of Christ. Jesus’ interactions with the disciples clearly demonstrate that small groups are an essential part of Christian growth.
